It feels real to me

Hey, it’s me again… Yeah, I know, it’s been awhile.

How’ve you been? … Yeah, I feel ya.

I’ve been busy. I moved so I’ve been exploring my new neighborhood. The school year ended but I’m right back to it, teaching summer school. It’s not the perfect summer job, because as we all know, go ahead and say it with me: the perfect summer job is having generational wealth and not needing one. Imagine.

Here’s the newest Crit List. Some bands that have been on the List before and some new ones too. All bangers, as always.

I’d like to introduce you to Good Sleepy, Stars Hollow, PRONOUN, snow ellet, Khaki Cuffs, Fiddlehead, Downhaul, Colleen Green, The Dirty Nil, Kitty Kat Fan Club, and Pack Sounds; I’d like to reintroduce you to Charmer, Gulfer, Virginity, Lucy Dacus, and Iron Chic.

If you need a few quick TV recs (because, believe it or not, I Think You Should Leave is NOT the only television show ever created) here ya go.

Hacks (HBO Max) just finished up its first season and it was faaaaantastic. It is very funny, and Jean Smart rules.

Dave (FXX) season two has been incredible. I didn’t expect to even like season one, but it was one of the best things on TV last year. I was not familiar with rapper Lil Dicky before this, but he’s made a great show that is funny and poignant (and raunchy).

Kevin Can Fuck Himself (AMC) is a unique take on the old ‘hot wife / idiot husband’ trope/genre. For once we get to see how that wife (Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek) deals with being married to the idiot husband. It’s really two different shows in one, but it works. They pulled off something special here.

Ted Lasso is back for season two. What a wonderful, warm group of characters. This show gives me a fuzzy vibe much in the same way Parks and Rec did. I just want to spend more time with these characters in their world. And if Ted and Leslie Knope ever worked together, anything would be possible. Imagine the positivity, the puns, the waffles, the biscuits, and the getting-shit-done that would happen.

NAME OF THE WEEK

There’s a baseball player named Bryce Ball. Say it out loud. It sounds just like the name of the sport he plays. Incredible.

OH AND HEY HERE’S A THING I’M SLOWLY WORKING ON

I’ve had an idea in my head for awhile and have started to slowly make it real: a zine. I’ve been filling up notebooks with writing, both poetry and prose, and want to turn it into a physical object and include various media with the words.

True story: this List has been just about done for a few weeks but I’ve been telling myself I’m “working on the track order” but what I really meant is “deciding whether or not to cut this last part.” I guess it made it in unless you hate it then just pretend it wasn’t even here no one reads this whole thing anyway right ha ha ha okay okay bye!
